Put together for a friend who had a loose idea of what he wanted and a rough budget, so I bought all the parts, had the metalwork done, and bedded it. 700SA VLS take-off stock Fluted 21.5" X-Caliber SS barrel, 1-8" twist, 6.5 Creedmoor, Rem Varmint contour Timney nickle trigger Cerakote Bushnell LRHSi 4.5-18x It goes 10.5lbs in the Talley LW's. My father also did a fluted VLS clone at the same time but in all SS and in .243win, also an 8" twist and throated to make lands inside his mag box with heavies. They were looking for rifles that were easy to shoot, pleasing to the eye, and maneuverable in a box stand. They're both in the timber business, hence the laminates. Anxious to see how the rifles shoot. They handle well and offer good balance, considering the weight.

Looks good, bet it shoots!

The barrel has a pretty substantial shank length for a Rem varmint contour.

The barrel has a pretty substantial shank length for a Rem varmint contour. Good eye. The flutes were cut in the blank with a planned barrel length of 20", when we changed that to 21.5, we retained more shank. Was no thing to open up the laminate handle a bit at the back end. And we'll hopefully shoot it this weekend. The X-Caliber is looking pretty good with the .243 build, but we are just getting started. My father shot some cheap Federals to get it sighted in and everything was sub-MOA. We're looking at the Hornady 103 ELD-X and 105 HPBT as main bullets and I'm hoping one is going to do the trick.

Those are nice rifles. I really like the idea of a 8 twist 243.

Sexy rifle Justin, she turned out slick. I’ve always liked the VLS models. I’d like to hear a report on the X-Caliber barrel too.
